I'm bummed-out due to this being my first late post...EVER!!!
Hopefully you'll have a chance to see this from an on-campus computer now that the ban on viewing this blog has been lifted as of last week!
So, What Happened?
Sorry, Spartan Runners, but I got home yesterday evening, ready to add the "practice post" for today and discovered that my home monitor blew out on me. I'm planning to purchase one tonight after practice; so the post could be a touch late for Friday's information. But please check because it will include Saturday's race information.
In any case, today will be a recovery run. While yesterday shouldn't have killed you off, I know you are tired from the past four days including a long run, hill repeats and yesterday's session.
Just in case you are still not sure why we did what we did yesterday, here are some benefits listed below:
- the purpose was to get you in a rhythm and to help you gain a sense of your pace (not to be gauged by a watch during the process--but only at the end.)
- to assist in the team grouping...this practice will carry over into the races which allows the slower runners to "hang on" with the front runners.
- to get a workout without totally fatiguing you. That would have happened if we had run "straight" traditional repetitions.
- checking your pulse and waiting for the magic number (120 beats/minute) allows you enough recovery to begin another rep. Waiting too long, will not benefit you.
- increasing our pace for every repetition helps simulate a race situation. In a race, your goal should always be to have a faster second half.
