Easy run scheduled...

for Wednesday, September 4...

Well, I think there are many of you late comers to the program who are quickly realizing that this coaching staff means business! We have a strong core group (a.k.a. Varsity) who have proven worthy through their dedication, daily attendance, and high mileage over the last 10 weeks of Summer who are able to handle most anything that Coach Thatcher and I have to throw at them. Today's was no exception. Most impressive were the Varsity Girls who hit those hills with an amazing sense of pace: 1:53, 1:53, 1:51, and 1:42 for Kaitlin, Holly and Molly...Megan and Alice hung on for three of four! Great job, gals!! The varsity boys were also steady but we (coaches) are still fine-tuning the pace of that top-five crew. Remember, it's important to slowly increase the pace and be faster on the last one instead of the other way around. Many of you achieved that.

Okay, so I will say one more thing about "the walking" I witnessed. To reiterate, the point of the matter is not the fact that by not walking means that you're running more miles. That has nothing to do with it. During our workouts and practices, we are not only developing our body systems (cardio-vascular, circulatory, muscular, etc...) but perhaps as important and maybe even more at the end of a race is how well your MIND has been prepared. What he/she does in practice carries over to the races. That means if it's easier to walk because you're tired, then it's easier to do the same (walking or slowing down) in a race. The more you do it, the easier it is to keep doing it. The same goes for running. The more you can resist the urge to walk, the less likely you'll be doing it in a race. Don't do it again...'nuf said!!

Practice Details: EASY! SLOW! FLAT! (Oh yeah...FLAT!)
If I can get a KEY, we (Varsity) will do a circuit of weights...an easy introduction. This will happen after the strides and stretching.

Here's the map...

DON'T BE LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
