Easy Thursday and Feedback Needed

Tomorrow's practice has a theme: Running As A Team

It involves a 1.5 mile loop near campus. You will run it as an easy run but you will be expected to run as a group and in a group. This serves as a way to get you to think in terms of running as a"top-five". The "top-five" refers to those team mates who are scoring members in a cross country race. But that doesn't mean that tomorrow's run is limited to five runners. In fact, the more people who run together, the better. Learning to run together during our training runs will carry over to our races. The tighter we are as a team, the better we are in the team scoring. This is known as the "spread". A spread is the difference in time between the #1 runner and the fifth runner, who is also the last scoring member on the team. So, let's practice running together tomorrow!

Coach Thatcher and I are expecting to see four groups assembled. You can decide how that plays out in terms of with whom you will be running . I would guess by now you already know your group.

The Map is here.

Please send me an email if you are interested in going to the race tomorrow evening. I need to plan ahead. See details about this on yesterday's post. We will leave promptly at 5:30pm from the LCHS pool. I can take 4 runners only.

  2. Good question...for example, if you are a boy who thinks of himself as a varsity runner, then run with those guys who are typically running the longest route during every practice. by the same token, a girl who sees herself running as a varsity runner should not be running with the jv girls, or even the jv boys for that matter. ideally, we there should be four different groups (as i have defined them back on day one)that are clearly observable by which there are indeed four packs of runners who are running together. hope that clarifies it for you.
