This is a long one, folks! 9 miles for the varsity...8.1, 7.2, 6.3 miles for the other groups. This will challenge you for sure. Do I think you can do this? ...Absolutely, and of course! The majority of you who have been coming to the workouts will complete this and feel very good about what you will have accomplished. Some of you have already realized that you can do more than you ever imagined. Never put limitations on yourself.
Tip: Go out very slowly! If you take the first 2-3 miles at a very comfortable pace (conversation pace), you will have no problem finishing this without walking. If you don't go out easy, you will feel miserable and will be tempted to walk. Walking during a workout will become a habit. This bad habit will carry over to a race.
Seriously, it's all about pacing yourself, being able to relax your form and your stride, chatting with your running partner/group, discussing goals, and enjoying the process. If you're breathing too hard, then you're running too fast.
Tomorrow, you will not need to do a 1-mile warm-up...also, no strides or core exercise. Alleluia!
There are plenty of opportunities to fine tune this to your distance. Look at the mileage markers and decide where you will turn back.
See the map for our run tomorrow...and good luck!
