A Look Back At LC Girls' CIF Performances: 2002-Present

Below is a list of the LC Girls team performances over the past 8 years leading up to CIF. I've included the year's CV best time, the Mt. SAC invite, and CIF PRELIMS/FINALS times. Also, I've listed the top-five scoring individuals who were on those CIF teams.

From doing this, I'm surprised to learn that we haven't been able to advance to the finals in the past two seasons even with really strong team times relative to past years. The only exception would be the team from the 2006 season who also didn't qualify but had a strong performance. Compare that '06 with this year's times. The team times from the same meets in both seasons as well as the CIF times are eerily similar. Even more interesting is in the following year ('07), when the team would run 3:30 slower at prelims, but would find itself in the finals.


Compare The Teams
Look at the individual times and positions in the race from each year's top-5 in CIF (prelims and finals) and see where your time this year would put you in those races. Obviously, the quality of the field has improved considerably. One notable example of this is the '04 team who ran 1:41:50 to place 12th in CIF. To compare, the 2009 team was 3 seconds slower and posted the 20th best time this year at Prelims. Presently, there are many more quality runners in the middle of the pack--and I suspect they're going to get better!! I'm also realizing that our teams in the past have benefited from a Two-Heat System versus the present system using 3 Heats...and I really don't know the reason. Again, 2006 didn't go onto finals either as they found themselves in a particularly fast year.

More LC Stats Coming
I've been invited to Doug Speck's home (a Dyestat Exec.) over winter break to sift through his vast collection of running stats and hopefully glean from it more historical stuff and continue to help preserve our LCXC history. My plan is to keep a year-by-year record of the teams (boys and girls) much like what I've done in this post, develop an all-time list at various cc courses (team and individual), and list the amazing achievements that go back to the late 60s that started during the LOGAN era.

Certainly, it will be a huge undertaking, but I'm up for the challenge. Besides, it's good for our sport!!

Of course, in time, I will add the boys information at a later date just as I have done with the girls today.
